United Nations Representative in Cape Verde talks to young people from Brava on historic visit
The UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF Representative in Cape Verde, David Matern, visited the island of Brava and talked to young people about challenges and solutions for local development, marking the start of the Youth Month celebrations.

On his first visit to the island of Brava, the Resident Representative of the UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF in Cape Verde, David Matern, took part in an open conversation with young people from Brava, promoted by the Brava Town Council. The meeting, which was also attended by the mayor, Amandio Brito, took place as part of the celebrations for the Youth Month, which culminates on August 12.
During an hour and a half of frank and participatory dialogue, the young people addressed the main challenges facing young people on the island, highlighting issues such as precarious transport, the need for greater attention to be paid to children with special needs, access to microcredit and the importance of distance learning.
David Matern stood out for his active listening and praised the young people's clear and determined vision for the future of the island. "I'm very happy with the very strong commitment that the youth have shown here. It's inspiring to see young people who want to stay on the island and who believe in its potential," said the representative.
This meeting marks an important moment of proximity between the United Nations and local youth, demonstrating the commitment of international organizations to listen to communities and work on joint solutions for sustainable development.
