Adimilton de Pina, who was speaking to Inforpress, pointed out that the campaign, with the collaboration of four agents on the ground, began on June 25 and will run until September.

As he explained, the aim of this activity is to get to know the species better, but also to identify it and thus understand how they can help with its conservation.

"We do various activities with these species, because we mark them with the rings, which is like an identity card and with this we can recognize the bird wherever it is," he stressed.

Dai, said that on this island the team is working on four identified colonies, namely Abafador and Baca which are located near the community of Furna and two more near Lomba Tantum known as Piram and Bracu de Cagarra.

"The campaign is just beginning and we hope that by the end of it we will be able to identify as many of these seabirds as possible," he said.

The Cory's shearwater (Calonectris edwardsii) is a seabird endemic to Cape Verde, known for its migrations to South America during the non-breeding season.

The species is monitored and protected by the Biosphere, being one of the first to receive attention in this regard. Researchers from the University of Barcelona have been studying seabirds in Cape Verde for years and consider the archipelago a special place for this species.
